On October 20th the brothers of Gamma Alpha held their first philanthropic event of the year. A blood drive that was coupled with selling spaghetti plates to raise money for MDA turned out a huge success. The nearly 50 Gamma Alpha brothers, along with close to 45 ladies from the sororities of Sigma Kappa, Alpha Chi, and Kappa Delta, attended the event. The event raised 41 units of blood for LifeShare Blood Center (nearly double the amount given in spring of 2009). Since the event was held around lunch time, the brothers were also able to raise nearly $500 for MDA by selling spaghetti lunch plates which were donated by Kiddie Mia's of Shreveport and cooked by alumni brother Andrew Cordaro.
The event didnt end there though. A couple weeks later philanthropy chairman, Joel Hall, received a phone call from the coordinator of LifeShare Blood Center not only thanking Hall for his efforts in organizing the event but asking if he would participate in making a commercial for LifeShare. Just before Thanksgiving break brothers Hall and Jermey Wimer went to Monroe and filmed a 30 second commercial at KNOE channel 8 urging members of the community to donate blood during the holidays.
Thank you to all the attended and donated to this event. It is because of you that it was such a huge success. We look forward to seeing you in the spring at the next blood drive! Thank you so much! Dieu et les dames!
